Stanley's still a puppy here!

Chris and Michelle (Vodden) Sanders have been running a very successful livery and riding stables at Sparhanger,  which is near Lynton in North Devon for a number of years now.

A few of us thought it would be great to keep a sort of on-line diary about life in and around the stables.

Chris and Michelle are not contributors to the diary, although we hope to get some of the superb photos that Chris takes, so if there are any comments please leave them on the site!

If you want to contact Chris or Michelle about  riding or livery their contact numbers are:-

LIVERY at Sparhanger

We offer a large range of livery options as through experience we have learned that no two liveries are the same. Our liveries are aimed to suit your horse and you as the owner.

We also offer  short term livery, such as when you are away on holiday, breaking and schooling or needing help with preparing your horse for sale.

You may have gathered by looking at our blog, we are a small and friendly yard with excellent facilities, set in the heart of Exmoor.

BHS Approved, we are on a 140 acre farm, with direct access onto Exmoor moorland, and  to an interlocking network of bridleways. Run by fully qualified owners and staff, Michelle is also an Examiner for the BHS and is the local co-ordinator for Horse Watch.

We have a range of horses from Winston, a 31″ Shetland, to Brendon and Merlin 17hh plus Eventer/hunters, from the very young (Jet) to the more mature (Uncle Jobie and Uncle Charlie).

Some of our livery clients are happy hackers, some hunt, other like to compete in Endurance, Eventing and Showing.

American Barn System

American Barn System

Our excellent facilities include a variety of stables from a new American barn system to large wooden loose boxes and more traditional style stone boxes. There also an isolation area for all new arrivals.

Safe, secure turnout and during the summer months there is an option to extend their turnout to 24hrs a day. Natural banks with trees offer protection from weather and being a bit higher and open on Exmoor, not so many flies.

Our All-Weather Arena

Our All-Weather Arena

We have 20 x 40 metre all-weather arena, Solairium and holding stocks (very handy when it comes to teeth), secure tack room and most important a dry warm place for that much needed cup of tea, the use of which are all included in your livery. On the yard we have facilities for rug washing and a place to store your horse trailers. We live on site and have mobile security camera, these also come into their own if we need to keep a closer eye on your horse such as at foaling times.

All our liveries are welcome to join us on treks. We also offer lessons and tuition for exams, some of which can be taken at Sparhanger. We run courses in stable management and have clinics such as horse massage.

Your horse will be treated as part of our family! And so will you.
